VASCULAR HOSPITALIST ADVANCED PRACTICE PROVIDER (APP)
The Vascular APP Hospitalist provides direct patient care services for the patients on the Vascular Service in Duke University Hospital in collaboration with current APP vascular team, residents and surgeons. The APP performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to assist the physician in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care; record the normal and abnormal data for review by the physician. Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record the date in the patient's record; write progress notes; prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings; obtain psychosocial history relevant to patient care, and assuming responsibility for developing therapeutic relationships with patients. Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient. Carry out therapeutic procedures such as, wound suturing and removal, dressing changes; monitor progress of patients, report progress to supervising physician, and maintain record of each patient's progress, consulting with supervising physician when patient's progress does not meet anticipated and/or predetermined criteria. Participate in basic science and clinical research projects conducted by supervising physician; prepare statistical reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions. Participate in teaching APP students and mentoring residents in techniques and procedures (such as wound vac application and remove and drain monitoring and removal) which are unique to specific clinical setting. This is an inpatient hospitalist position and there is NO operating room responsibilities with this position. The APP contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, and provides leadership to the organization.
NP: Work requires completion of accredited graduate level Nurse Practitioner program (Acute Care certification preferred)
PA: Work requires graduation from a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessor agencies.
NP: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina and approval to practice as an NP.
PA: Licensure as a Physician Assistant in the state of North Carolina
NP: National certification as an NP (Acute Care certification preferred)
PA: National Commission on Certification of PAs (NCCPA) certification is required
no experience required. Will consider new grad.
Life Support: BLS, ACLS - Required
Primary hours will be Monday through Saturday, including holidays, 14 (fourteen) 12 hour shifts per month (days only 530a-530p). Flexibility is required to meet clinical needs.
