| This is an open continuous announcement for Temporary LPN Positions at the VA New Jersey Health Care System. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis and qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available. Applications will remain on file until September 30th, 2021. This temporary position is not to exceed 120 days but may be extended based on agency's needs. Licensed Practical Nurse duties include, but are not limited to: Responsible for primary nursing care to an assigned group of selected patients/residents and for the plan of action in carrying out patient/resident care assignments. Report and record current observations such as patient's/resident's physical condition, emotional response and results of procedures; observes skin conditions, variations in vital signs, personal habits of patients/residents, and listens for clues to patient's/resident's reaction to illness and treatment. Perform assigned nursing care responsibilities requiring the use of advanced equipment, technology, or knowledge in procedures performed in the GU Clinic, Eye Clinic, General Medical, Surgical, Orthopedic, Diabetic, Urology Clinics, Vital Signs area, and Patient Transport. Provide patient/resident and family education regarding the patient's/resident's condition, procedures, and preventive health care; reinforces health teaching initiated by the multidisciplinary treatment team. Recognize the need for and initiates action in emergencies, i.e., cardiac/respiratory arrest, seizures, and/or assaultive behavior. Utilize specialized equipment such as, Doppler Units, Oximeter, Visual Field Analyzer, Electro-fulguration Machine, Cryothermia Machine, Computer Terminal, and Printer. Provide one-to-one nursing care to assigned outpatients whose care requires close observation. Follow policies and procedures related to fire and disaster drills, safety and security measures. Interprets Medical Center Regulations and policies to patients, relatives, and visitors. Assist the physician and/or nurse with therapeutic or diagnostic procedures, including skin biopsies, joint aspirations, phlebotomies, pap smears, pelvic examinations, minor eye surgeries, and minor GU procedures. Obtain and arranges necessary equipment. Correctly positions the patient/resident, provides information, and reassurance to the patient. Observe and respond to changes in patient's/resident's behavior by providing emotional support, intervening to correct the problem, or reporting the situation to the Registered Nurse. Accept and support established Medical Center policies and procedures. Performs other related duties as indicated by the needs of the patient and the unit.
